BaT Exclusive: Steel-Dash 1967 MGB GT

S180 Ferrari 1972 246 GT Dino

This 1967 MGB GT (Chassis GBD010950P) is a well preserved example with a truckload of desirable spares and a currently inoperable overdrive. The seller put together an excellent Picasa photo album with captions (link), showing that the sale includes some very cool vintage America Racing Libre wheels and the corresponding 4-lug rear axle and front hubs. An additional steel dash and the tired factory engine and transmission are included, and the car currently sports a modified engine from the same year with Sean Brown head, VP-12 cam, and side-draft carb as well as an overdrive transmission that won’t currently engage overdrive. The seller says that it runs very well apart from that issue, that the interior is excellent, and that the Grampian Gray paint is good driver quality. It is available in Oakland, California for $11, 900.

The car came from Bakersfield, California where the previous owner had painted it and put in mostly all new interior. The paint has some chips and minor orange peel, and lower drivers door sill has small bubbles starting, but no other rust according to the seller. The seller admits that he is no overdrive expert, and after adding new seals, solenoid, wiring harness, switch, and bearings, it still does not want to engage. He suspects that an expert with these units is required to help sort it out.

Nice car but you need to change the timing belt with a new tensioner. the other deal is rust, plus the lower A- frame mount cracks alot. the brakes are easy to work on the rotors are cheap to replace as they use the same parts for other models the carb is a two barrel down draft weber and you can remove the choke plate from the second barrel for more airflow. the motors are interference fit, that means if you jump the timing belt or break it you blow the motor all to hell. valve adjustment is a bitch as they use shims between the camshafts and valve,but not hard if you have the right tools. the rear control arms rust out and the bushings get cracked, I dont car what other folks think about them these are nice fast good handling cars, sorta like a poor mans
