Porsche 901 was the name originally intended for the Porsche 911.
At the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (Frankfurt Motor Show) in September 1963, Porsche presented its successor to the Porsche 356 as the 901.
It took several more months until the cars were manufactured for sale to customers.
Between September and November 1964, 82 cars were built and the 901 was presented in October at the 1964 Paris Auto Salon. There, French car maker Peugeot objected to Porsche using any three digit number where the middle number was 0, asserting ownership of the naming rights in key markets, and having already sold many models with that scheme. So, Porsche simply replaced the middle 0 with a 1, and called the car Porsche 911.
232 cars were produced in 1964 in total. The 232 is the quantity of pre-production and production cars starting with VIN 300 001 and ending with 300 232.
Both authors Tobias Aichele “Porsche Forever Young” and Jugen Lewandowski “Porsche 901″ state that only 232 cars were made before production stopped on December 23, 1964. Furthermore, both authors agree that the first car of 1965 bore chassis number 300 235 as of January 4, 1965. The difficulty of verifying these early chassis numbers is made difficult because of the Factory’s reliance on hand written record keeping during this early period and the constant changes during the development and testing process.

My favorite car was a 67 Sunbeam Alpine2006-08-23 10:50:30 by autotek
Got it in 68 with 12kmi.I put an Abarth exhaust onit.It had a hardtop for the winter and was warm and dry.In the spring I would take it off and drive with a tonneau cover so only the drivers area was open with the top down. The heater on full blast and I was comfortable.I put in a Blaupunkt AM/FM which was a bog deal back then.I has a bookshelf speaker for the rear seat.I would tune the radio in FM between stations and it would pick up the ignition system.I would accelerate with just the front speaker then at 4krpm turn on the rear speaker. It sounded like a jet taking off, especialy when I was stoned.
