Today I am writing a song description on Qi Cun Lian; coming from the Titon Worlds of music CD 2 track 13. The song starts off with a drum being played faster than the previous notes, that act like some short of build up to another layer of the crash symbols. In the another layer in the back background that sounds like its being smack together: it helps build the tempo. Then the percussion instruments slows the tempo down again to set the tempo for most of the song. As soon as this happens the drums in the background sounds as if they are playing sets of triplets followed by a duple meter. The the drums have a pause right before what sounds like wind instruments coming all at once. Not only that they come at once but its like they are following a leader. Before they all play, you can hear that there is one sound gradually getting louder until there is a huge swarm of wind instruments coming all at once. This makes the contour really rides up like its shooting upwards to the sky. Even the the dynamics changes from really soft to extremely loud in a matter of seconds. That change is the start of the melody being played by the wind instruments and continues until they fade out again by sustaining the pitch for 3 beats. After the percussion continue to play until they also fade out. There motives of the song have conjunct intervals at the beginning of the melody. Then a disjunct interval for section B of the melody. The contour of the melody goes up and a sudden drop, then for section B the contour of the melody shoots up to a high pitch that lowers a little bit followed by a gradual climb towards a higher pitch. After section A repeats twice and so as section B repeats two times right after. The primary character of the melody is disjunct. There are many motives that will start on a lower pitch then have a sudden rise to a higher pitch that leaves a lot of space between the two, especially during the transition between the percussion and the wind instruments and going from section A to section B. The song has a big overall range starting on a lower and basic pitch supplied by the timbre of the drums (membranphone) to a screeching high pitch from the timbre of the wind instrument ( aereophone).
